This map shows the new Calare Electorate for the Federal Election to be held later this year. The Electorate has reverted to having a truly Central West identity with a much more localised feel.
As you can see the Electorate encompasses eight separate Local Government Areas from Forbes and Parkes in the west through to Lithgow and Oberon in the East. It is clear that the priorities of the Electorate include improved Health Services, an improved path over the mountains as well as Water Security, Job Security and Food Security.
This Electorate is the home to the oldest established mining and agricultural areas in Australia. It is steeped in history and has the potential to flourish even further. Our primary producers include some of the best horticulture, broad acre and intensive farmers in Australia. Our tourism and energy industries continue to grow and develop while small and medium businesses thrive in services, industry and manufacturing.
We face challenges in the future based on securing water security through local initiatives and responsibility and the provision of health services which require a greater input from the wonderful front line medical staff that do an amazing job week in, week out.
Our towns and villages throughout the electorate maintain the community feel that only comes from regional living whilst our cities combine the friendly warmth of regional life with the modern convenience that comes with living so close to services, shops, schools, universities and recreational facilities.
This is where regional settlements outside of Sydney began and remains a shining example of Regional Australia at its best. I care about Calare, it is a great place to live.
